St. Charles Township To Be Out of Campton Hills' Petition

Senator Chris Lauzen

SPRINGFIELD (February 2, 2006)- It has come to my attention today that some residents of St. Charles Township do not want to be included in Campton Hills' incorporation petition (SB2933).  I respect these individuals' opinions and feelings, as well as those of all the 212,000 people whom I serve in Kane, Kendall and LaSalle Counties.

Therefore, I support the removal of St. Charles Township from the Campton Hills annexation area.  I assure everyone that legislation that I am sponsoring, which merely clarifies reasonable criteria for self-determination for one group of my constituents, will not hurt another group of my constituents. I will not advance this bill to final action in the General Assembly until St. Charles Township is certain of being removed.

My understanding of the incorporation petition process is that a legal representative of St. Charles Township needs to give the judge considering the Campton Hills application evidence of the St. Charles Township residents' desire to be excluded. Then St. Charles Township will be removed.  To help in that effort, I will assist in gathering the signatures to secure this objective.

I am confident that it has never been Campton Hills' nor anyone's intention to do to St. Charles Township what Elgin did to them, i.e. over-reach in determining the future in an area.
