Senator Chris Lauzen presented a check for $1,000 to U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant Terry Peterson of Warrenville this past Saturday night. Peterson, a 2001 Marmion Academy graduate and a 2005 Citadel graduate who was seriously injured in Iraq when a roadside bomb exploded next to his Humvee, was home for the weekend and attended a fundraiser in his honor at the Warrenville VFW. He has already returned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. to continue his extensive rehabilitation program.
Over the past two years, through the efforts of volunteers at Senator Chris Lauzen Dodgeball Tournaments and the kindness of generous friends in the area, funds have been collected to help our local soldiers who are facing severe physical and emotional injuries from the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. To date, over $7,000 has been donated to these very special heroes.
"Terry Peterson is a brave, young American," said Lauzen. "I marvel at his example to the rest of us of positive attitude and spiritual strength. Terry is a great kid and we all should keep him in our prayers for a speedy recovery."
